Mar has put together the snuggliest winter outfit ever, and it all happened because of a pair of boots.

They’re the Kimiko Urban High Heel Boots from Dirty Lynx, which she found while browsing footwear on SL Marketplace (never a good idea if you want your L$ balance to remain healthy, by the way…). Once she had those boots on her feet, an outfit had to be built around them.

The first thing to spring to mind was the Warm Sweater in Dust from Aitui (whose 60L$ sale on all female clothing items was still ongoing the last time Mar popped over there). The skirt is from the free Bridget dress set by Elate!, offered at the Gnubie Store. Leggings are the TDR Basics Leggings Brown 2 from Tee*fy: a past Dressing Room item, and the belt is the Low Waist Leather Belt (black/gold) from one of my favourite little stores: Chuculet.

Earrings are the Oversized Hoops in gold, from Baubles (great basics, those!) and the hair is Seth in Almost Goth, from a recent LeLutka hunt prize (always grab the male freebies as well as the female ones, ladies; often they’re just as wearable!) Finally, Mar’s skin is the stunning Castalia Vampire skin from Glam Affair: another recent Dressing Room offering, and her eyes are the blue Zbilja ones from Exodi’s discount room.

Funny how blogposts evolve. I’d originally planned to base a look around some funky leopardskin boots I got at the Cart Sale in Car Wash, but I couldn’t find any animal print items in inventory that matched the print well enough. I did, however, find a nice leopardskin top from a Cupcakes dress, and ended up basing this look around that.

It’s a kind of glam, clubby look, and I fell in love with Ivey’s gorgeous Nightclubbing Skirt fatpack at Sn@tch with its sculpted prims and little hint of lace, so that had to be a part of this look! The top is, as mentioned before, from an old Cupcakes dress. The shoes are the very reasonably-priced Kahakai shoes in black, from R2. Hair is #55 (an old freebie or dollarbie; can’t remember which!) from Waka and Yuki. The jewellery comes from the Jewellery Fair 2009, and is the Fall Colors Topaz Set from SBJ.

Mar added the recent Stiletto Moody free gift Box Bracelet because it had the perfect colours for this look. Her skin is the current Gina 04 offering from Tuli at The Dressing Room. Finally, Mar hopped over to Love Soul’s discount board and snagged the Sexy Girl A*Black prim nails to complete the look.

Today’s look came about after I ‘paid and played’ with a few gacha machines. For those that haven’t used them yet, gacha machines are becoming increasingly popular among store owners in Second Life. They are stocked with random prizes (often one item in many colours) and the customer, on paying the required (and usually low) price receives a random item from the machine.

At Baby Monkey Mar received some pretty box bracelets for a L$25 payment, and a further L$25 payment to a shoe vendor in the same store yielded a great colour-change pair of shoes in similar hues. Hence the quest began to put together an outfit around them. In the end, I couldn’t match the bracelets, but I did manage a look based on one of the possible shoe colours.

As mentioned, the shoes are from the gacha machine, and different footwear is inside it. Mar received the Beckie Pumps in the blue and green colour set. Her pants are from Sn@tch’s recent releases: the Classic Knit Trousers. Her top is, again, from Sn@tch (and you thought Ivey only made punky gear, right?) – the gorgeous fatpack of Jane Ruched Tops with big puffy shoulder detail and a cute bow where the ruched section is gathered.

Jewellery is from Ticky Tacky: the Lomo Saltado Bangles which Mar already had in inventory, and the L$5 Gem Spot Earrings in Flame Warrior, from Ticky Tacky’s discount room on the top floor of the store.

Hair is from the freebie Danina fatpack by Amacci, and is the auburn shade. Skin is the current Gina 04 from Tuli, at The Dressing Room, and eyes are Tuli’s Gem Eyes in sapphire (free at Tuli’s mainstore).

Lastly, Mar’s nails are the Folklore Prim Nail & Ring in green, from the discount board at Love Soul.

And now I have that song on the brain.

Anyway! Shoes and bags oh my God. I hopped quickly over to Purplemoon Creations today and snagged a gorgeous pair of shoes and a fabby leather bag. The shoes are called Haru and the bag is the Eva leather bag. Lots more colours than the brown I’ve shown here (I try to buy colours that I know I can mix and match a number of outfits around, especially when I’m making big ticket purchases).

Mar opted for Sn@tch all the way for clothing, from the Sassy Cord Skirt to the Temp Buttondown shirt, and the top from the gold Vintage Vavoom dress underneath.

For jewellery, Mar hopped over the grid. Great prices and unusual styles at Baubles, and it was there that she found these brilliant basics: the Oversized Hoop Earrings in gold. An old purchase (so old I can’t remember when the heck she got it) is the Gallant Bracelet in yellow gold from Earth Jewel, and the necklace is an old group gift from Curio: the Vintage Heart Necklace in old gold and purple.

Skin and eyes are both from Tuli. The skin is the current (but not for much longer!) limited edition Gina 03 special at The Dressing Room, and the eyes are from the freebie fatpack of Gem Eyes in the Tuli mainstore.

Finally, Mar’s hair is a current favourite: the free 101 hair in brown from White Well, free at Savoir Hair.

It all started with the hair. This amazing Kate hair, complete with hat, is from Kookie at The Dressing Room Blue. There are two tones in the pack, and Mar is wearing the darker one. Then, also at DRB, she found this fabulous dress from Mimikri, and the look spiralled from there.

Cheaper-than-cheap and yet utterly lovely L$1 Sandalettes, the L$1 Belle Jewellery Set, and a L$5 Maya bag, all from Chuculet, and the boho chic look is complete. It looks especially good with the group-only preview Tanya skin from Tuli, in such a gorgeous sunkissed tan shade.

Mar topped off the look with a bright manicure from Ibizarre, which is from a freebie glove manicure fatpack just inside the store.

Is it wrong of me to hope that Tuli will be releasing an entire set of her Gina skins via The Dressing Room’s limited-time offers? I mean hell, even at an incredibly low-priced L$65 a skin, enough people must be buying them to make it a worthwhile venture. And it’s an amazing chance for SL’s female avatars to buy beautiful skins from a top-name skin creator.

The Gina skins are some of the loveliest I’ve seen in SL, because they combine elegance with a slightly older look. Not too old, but there’s a sophistication present that I don’t see in many other skins. This is the latest: Gina 02, which was released with the current Dressing Room collection:

Paired with the Leslie hair that Exile have out in The Dressing Room, plus the Maitreya Short Trench and A-Bomb’s Swing Time dress (shown in more detail a couple of posts back) this is such a super-gorgeous look that I never want to take it off. Favourite skins come and go for me: one month I’ll be wearing only Belleza, the next it’ll be Chai, but these Tuli skins have fast become firm favourites.
