I know I’ve not been around for a while, either here or on the main blog. I really needed to take a break from SL, so I’ve only been logging in to pay rent on my land, and clear group notices.
I also created a quiet newbie haven in the land-based home I have there. Since I use a skybox way up high, and the house came with the land, I thought it would be nice to make somewhere for newbies to go to unpack boxes, try on clothes, and just hang out with their friends. I’m not publicising the location, because I don’t want it to get swamped. So if you find it, it’ll be because you stumbled upon it.

Baaaaad shoes!
She does realise they’re easy to customise, right? I mean, she did read the notecard included in the shoe pack that tells you the super-easy way to get the skintone on the prim feet to match your avatar’s skintone. Right?
Wrong.
Also, I spy bits of Very Big Feet at the front there, not covered by the foot-hiding invisiprims (set your foot size down to ZERO, ladies! It’s the default size!) Not to mention that the ankle cuffs are digging into her skin. Oh, and the invisiprim on the left foot is way too high for her and cuts off her leg, but it can easily be dragged down.
Actually, I don’t know where to start with what’s wrong here, and I was too tired to risk the confrontation I might have received had I gently suggested to her in IM how she could make those fabulous shoes look so much better on her.

Well, given that I’d logged off while still cammed on Mar’s legs after taking screenshots of prim-toed shoes (thus that pic was guaranteed to be my screen_last image), this compliment from my Second Life viewer definitely gave me a smile as I logged in today:

I see we have new splash pages when we start our viewers. This enormous face was what greeted me and made me go, “EEK!” this morning when I fired up SL:
Kind of scary, all stretched out like that. I wonder if that avatar has logged on and seen herself on the splash screen yet?
And secondly, I like collecting funny/brilliant/clever names in SL. When I first started SL for Nowt I blogged the ones I found on a fairly regular basis, but I stopped doing that once the blog turned into what it now is. Over here I can start blogging them again, so hi to CanYouHearMe, and thanks for making me grin behind my keyboard:
Splurging (April 5th)

I splurged today. (Minds out of the gutter, if you please!) It was the last day of the Pixeldolls 50L$ sale, plus there was a secret sale at Bewitched Hair and House of Heart, and Ivey had put out some gorgy new items at Sn@tch. Spendy!Mar splurged a total of 775L$ (eek!) but she also won items to the value of 800L$ on the Sn@tch lucky board, so I’d call that honours even *g*
Splurge #1 was this fabulous ‘Gypsy’ skirt and top set, from Sn@tch, priced at 225L$:
With this outfit, you get the skirt in black, plus the little top in four colours: black, orange, purple (shown here), and white, and on two layers: shirt and undershirt. The little string tie on the top comes in black and also a tintable version, so you can match it with the top, or your hair. That’s a really nice touch :)
The hair in this shot is Bewitched Hair’s ‘Unkept’ in ‘Bell’ (from the Candie colour pack). Unkept is one of my favourite styles from Bewitched, so I was very happy to find it in today’s secret sale, although I’m not going to tell you what price it was ;)
The skin is my beloved Stella di Roccia II ‘Smoke’ in Tone E, with crimson lipstick. I adore these skins, available at Pixeldolls in Port Seraphine. Each pack contains four lip makeups (red, plum, lined, and nude) and freckled and unfreckled versions of each. Also included is a lovely bald base with beautiful arched eyebrows and a pair of prim lashes (something I have yet to get to grips with!)

Hi there :)
I’m Mar, and I run SL for Nowt, which is a blog dedicated to finding freebies and cheapies, and to helping newbies in the virtual world of Second Life.
SL for Nowt is quite a popular blog with regular readers (thanks to all those that bookmark me, add me to their RSS readers, and comment on my posts!) but it’s my ‘official face’ in Second Life. For a while now I’ve occasionally included tagged posts called Mar’s Ponderings, which are my thoughts on certain things, but I don’t feel that such posts really belong on a freebie and newbie blog.
So, since I’d like to keep SL for Nowt dedicated to its original freebie/cheapie/newbie ethos, I’ve created this blog – Mar’s Ponderings – solely for my more ‘unofficial’ posts. Please feel free to add, read and/or comment as you wish. Hopefully I’ll be checking this blog’s stats page for any comments once a day, so I should be able to reply fairly quickly.
